Following a one year absence Pecatonica Memorial Day Service, dedication program set to take place at Sumner Park
In 1992, Ken Countryman of Countryman Funeral Home, felt that it would be proper and fitting that the community remember those community members and loved ones who had passed away in the prior year.
After Ken retired in 2002, the Pecatonica Lions Club was asked to continue the traditional. The Memorial Day Service and Dedication Program, continues to this day in Sumner Park with a break last year due to COVID-19.
This year’s event, which will be at 10 a.m. on Memorial Day prior to the much anticipated parade. Names of individuals from the Pecatonica area that have passed away in 2019 and 2020 will be included in this year’s program along with the dedication of bricks, plaques and flagpoles that have been purchased by friends or family. There also will be musical selections by Then and Now, Forever Friends, the Pec Elementary third grade class and the high school band.
The service will also include a Veterans Program presented by the local American Legion Post #197.
Face coverings are suggested for non-vaccinated persons and social distancing will be observed. Limited chairs will be provided. We are encouraging attendees to bring their own lawn chairs and sit in their family/friend groups.
