By Marianne Mueller
Roscoe resident Melissa McCormick has an extensive business background and a strong faith; both leading her to opening a new page on her life journey.
McCormick spent over 30 years working at Taylor Company in Rockton where she led a team as Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. She oversaw operations in the International shipping department.
Taylor is such a very special place,” McCormick said. “I always called Taylor Hotel California, you can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave.”
After years in the corporate world a new wave of inspiration came over McCormick. She decided it was the right time to try something new. She then started a new career by becoming an entrepreneur and a Woman’s business coach at MX3 Business Solutions, LLC., which won the Stateline Chamber of Commerce Women In Business Award in 2020. In 2021 McCormick was honored with the Better Business Bureau’s award for Marketplace Ethics.
She also has served as a leader in churches and in various community groups. McCormick served as President of the Rockton-Roscoe Rotary Club from Aug. 19 until July of 2021.She has been active in the Rotary since 2005, and has been the Rotary District 6420 Secretary for a one-year term and is currently the Rotary 6420 Public Image Chair, filling this position until 2024.

McCormick has given keynote presentations, and hosted group workshops plus one-on-one coaching sessions. Her philosophy is to be intentional in the leadership development of all employees.
“Its not by accident that employees become leaders. Let’s develop future leaders together,” McCormick says.
In her career path she has led in Strategic plan implementation and execution. She was Director of Sales – Domestic from 2008- 2012.
McCormick has been a Key Account Manager and extended into International Marketing Management.

She received the following certification: COHORT II Completion – Carrier Corporation (2014)
ACE Pilot, UTC (process improvement certification), Facilitation Results trained,
Speed of Trust, Franklin-Covey, Trained, Everything Dis C® and is Certified and Wiley Partner.
All of these experiences combined led her to the next chapter. McCormick wrote a new book, titled “Grace & Salt; A Journey of Self-Discovery,” featuring Biblical lessons designed to transform individuals and team members into better leaders. Self-discovery activities guide readers toward the start of personal and organizational transformation.
Helpful ways of dealing with stress in a work environment or other aspects of life come from different messages.
McCormick’s husband suggested that she write the book and fully encouraged her during this endeavor.
“It has been a journey to write this book,” McCormick said. “In June I met with an agent in June who advised me that if I have no following on Facebook that I should publish the book on my own.
“This is my story, it is a business book but is Biblical based,” McCormick adds.
“I was a youth director at our church and led mission trips. As leaders, we would talk with our youth, asking them what they wanted to take back with them from their trip. One of the high school students asked me what I was going to do when I came back,” McCormick reflects. “I answered, I am going to take Jesus to work with me.”
Grace & Salt’s first half of the book is based on leading and leadership. It also features downloadable content and video training. A book launch date is set for Jan. 11, 2022. Pre-orders are now being taken. McCormick plans to be at Prairie Street Brewing in Rockford on Jan. 23 to celebrate the books release. She will be on hand to sign copies.
