Durand FFA announces its ‘Kiss a Pig’ project
The Durand FFA’s Kiss a Pig Project was started to give back to the community but also benefit agriculture in the community. In 2020, the FFA raised funds to purchase a Grain Rescue Tube for the Durand Fire Department and in 2021 the project was not done at a large level but the Durand FFA and FFA Alumni and Supporters worked together to purchase material to make 75 blankets for Medina.
This year, funds raised from the project will be used to purchase meat at Eickman’s Processing Company in Seward for the Durand Area Food Pantry.
After discussing needs with the DAFP, it came to the attention of the FFA of how difficult it can be to secure protein in the form of meat for the monthly giveaways. This year’s candidates to kiss the pig are Peter Robertson (Durand Schools Activities Director), Amy Damon (Durand Schools second-grade teacher), and Corey Anderson (Durand School Board and DuPec F/S Assistant Coach).
The winner will be determined by the amount of money raised. There will be cans to vote at the Durand State Bank, Ref’s Bar & Grill, Tyler Hoffman-Country Financial, Davis State Bank, and at any home basketball game.
Anyone who would like to make a donation can visit one of those locations or mail a check to the school. Join them Monday, Feb. 14 during halftime of the boys varsity game to see who kisses the pig.
