Out of the Darkness Campus Walk hosted by Stillman Valley High School
Stillman Valley High School Senior, Lillie Doss, and School Counselor, Trisha McKendry, are teaming up with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to host an Out of the Darkness Campus Walk with the goal of bringing awareness and prevention of suicide to our community.
Just nine years ago, Ms. Doss lost her father to suicide. She approached Mrs. McKendry with the idea that she wanted to do something to make a difference for others who have experienced a similar loss while honoring the memory of her father.
She hopes to make a positive impact on our students and community by bringing awareness and prevention to all. Together Ms. Doss and Mrs. McKendry worked with the Americian Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to bring this walk to our community.
“I could not be any prouder of Lillie for all her efforts to make this walk a reality,” reports Mrs. McKendry.
This prevention and education event is an opportunity to reflect on the loss of loved ones, friends, and family to suicide. It is a reminder of how we have supported one another through these times of loss.
For those who have never experienced a loss, this is an opportunity to spread compassion, education, and awareness of suicide prevention.
In the fall of 2022, the AFSP will return to Stillman Valley High School and provide the school with follow up suicide education/prevention.
The Out of the Darkness Campus Walk is open to the entire community. It will take place on Sunday, May 1, at 1 p.m. Check-in and on-site registration will begin at 11:30 a.m. The public may register in person on the day of the walk or online at: www.afsp.org/stillmanvalleyhigh. All donations are in support of the AFSP. Please take a moment to visit the website to learn how you can make a difference.
