Holiday Train to pass through Byron
The City of Byron is happy to announce that The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train will once again return to Byron on Dec. 3, at the intersection of Colfax and Seventh.
The train plans on arriving at 11:45 a.m., with entertainment starting at Noon, and the event ending at 12:30 p.m.
Lindsay Ell and JoJo Mason will perform from a train car along with a presentation from Canadian Pacific to People Helping People.
For those who are not familiar with The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train it began in 1998 with the goal of collecting non-perishable foods and cash donations to be given to local food banks across North America. The train consists of 14 rail cars decorated with LED lights and holiday designs.
Once stopped at a safe location a stage door will lower from a train car where performers play traditional and modern holiday themed songs along with other popular original songs.
The event is free, but we do ask for cash donations and non-perishable foods to be donated to our local food bank, People Helping People, who will be on hand to collect donations.
Traffic Alert
Colfax Street will be closed south of Byron Hills and north of Third Street along with the closure of Seventh Street. Traffic should detour by using Barker Road.
We further recommend you arrive early and not park on the north side of the tracks as once the train arrives you will not be allowed to cross the railroad tracks at the pedestrian crossing as it will be closed.
The event will be held on the south side of the tracks in the intersection of Colfax and Seventh.
The Byron Police Department and Canadian Pacific Railroad Police will be on site and would like to remind persons attending that it is unlawful to be on the railroad tracks at any time as enticing as it is to see and take photos of the CP Engine dressed in lights and wreath.
