The current Machesney Park village hall building, dedicated on Oct. 29, 1986, is undergoing some much-needed renovation.

Village staff and services are relocated to a temporary office location. As explained by Village Management Analyst, Dylan Moffitt, “Beginning on Wednesday, Oct. 4, the Village of Machesney Park will temporarily relocate its offices to 9942 N. “As renovations continue at the village hall and police department, this temporary relocation is necessary in order to protect the safety of village hall visitors and to prevent service disruptions.

“All village services and staff will be available at the temporary location on N. Alpine Road. Offices will remain at the temporary location until the planned re-opening of village hall in January 2024. –A little history from Mayor Steve Johnson:

“The existing village hall building was dedicated on Oct. 29, 1986. Contractor on the renovation is Schmeling Construction Co., Rockford. The only past major improvement to the building was made when the ‘board room’ was remodeled in 2015.

“Currently, the building is in need of upgrades to the Sheriff’s Department (police areas) in order to comply with new State of Illinois mandates.

“Also, the accessibility, energy, and electrical codes have evolved significantly over the past 35 years, and the village is now required to update much of the electrical and HVAS systems to meet current requirements.

“The renovation project was awarded to Schmeling at a cost of $2,002,600 and will bring the Police Department up to current requirements for policing compliance with state requirements.

“Village Hall will also be updated for the public when they enter into the building, making it easier for the public to find the different departments that they may need or questions that they may have for staff.”
