Belvidere Police Department announces STEP enforcement dates
BELVIDERE – Belvidere Police Chief Jan Noble announces the sixth phase (Labor Day Campaign) of enforcement for the Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program Grant (STEP Grant). The extra enforcement dates are Aug. 24 through Sept. 7.
The Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety, awarded the Belvidere P.D. funds to conduct additional specialized patrols for occupant restraint violations and DUI.
Off-duty officers will be hired back to conduct roving saturation patrols and seat belt enforcement zones. Officers will be deployed at or near high crash and high traffic locations.
Chief Noble encourages motorists to “buckle up” and to designate a sober driver if you’ve been consuming alcohol. Motorists caught unbelted or under the influence will be cited or arrested.
