Police and sheriff department’s release crime briefs
BELVIDERE – On Aug. 17, at 4:02 p.m., a Belvidere Police Department (BPD) Officer responded to the PSB in reference to fraud. BPD Officer spoke with the complainant who stated she received and deposited a check for a table she was selling on Craigslist.
The buyer told the complainant that the money was to be sent to Atlanta, Ga. to pay the movers picking up the table and that money was to be sent to Arizona to later cancel the transaction. The complainant sent money via Moneygram to pay for the movers. The check later bounced. Case sent to detectives for review.
On Aug. 21, at 4:32 p.m., BPD Officer was dispatched to Wal-Mart for a retail theft. BPD Officer spoke with LPO who advised that a subject had selected items from the shelves, concealed them on him, and attempted to leave without paying. The subject was arrested and later lodged in Boone County Jail.
On Aug. 22 at 5:05 p.m., BPD Officer was at Wal-Mart to get paperwork for a previous arrest when they were notified of a second arrest. LPO advised a subject had changed price tags on a pair of pants and had not paid for other items. The subject was arrested.
On Aug. 22 at 7:50 p.m., BPD Officer was dispatched to Wal-Mart, 2101 Gateway Center, in reference to a retail theft. BPD Officer met with Asset Protection, who stated he had observed a subject conceal two items of merchandise in his clothing and then attempted to leave the store without paying for the items. The subject was placed under arrest.
On Aug. 22, at 10:03 p.m., BPD Officer was dispatched to the 400 Block of Wheatland Dr. in reference damage to a vehicle. BPD Officer spoke with the complainant who stated his vehicle was hit with eggs. The complainant’s daughter stated she was outside and observed a white four door Dodge Neon drive by slowly and a passenger throw eggs at the vehicle at 9:45 p.m.
On Aug. 22, at 10:25 p.m., BPD Officer went to the 200 Block of W. Jackson in reference to damage to vehicle. BPD Officer made contact with the complainant who stated sometime between 7:30 p.m. and 10:25 p.m. on Aug. 22, an unknown person broke the driver’s side sliding door window of his vehicle.
On Aug. 23 at 1:47 p.m., a BPD Officer responded to Shopko, in reference to a retail theft. BPD Officer spoke with Loss Prevention employee, who had a subject detained for stealing items. The subject was arrested for Retail Theft.
On Aug. 23 at 4:36 p.m., BPD Officer was flagged down on damage to property in the 200 Block of N. State St. BPD Officer spoke with the complainant who stated unknown person(s) had smashed out the East window in the entry way to the store. Damage occurred between 4 p.m. on Aug. 21 and 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 23.
On Aug. 23, at approximately 7:06 p.m., BPD was dispatched to the 1900 Block of Cloverdale Way in reference to a house fire. BPD Officer met with the resident who advised that he had observed flames and thick smoke coming from the basement of the residence. Belvidere Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the fire.
The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical in nature. BPD Detective was called out to process the scene. Case forwarded to the Detective’s Section.
BOONE COUNTY – On Aug. 17, at approximately 1:48 p.m., BCS Deputy was dispatched to the Boone County Fairgrounds reference a theft. BCS Deputy made contact with the complainant who stated that he left a rented caterer’s food warmer at the fairgrounds for pickup.
The complainant stated that the warmer was last seen at 9 a.m. and that the rental company (North Park Rental) arrived for pick up at 10:55 a.m. and it was not there. Case referred to Detective Section.
On Aug. 18, at approximately 5:56 a.m., BCS Deputy was dispatched to the 9600 Block of Ridgeview Road in reference to a burglary to a motor vehicle. BCS Deputy spoke to the complainant who stated that between 10:30 p.m. of Aug. 17 and 5:40 a.m. of Aug. 18 someone broke in to his work van and stole items. Case forwarded to Detective Section.
On Aug. 19, at 5:50 p.m., BCS Deputy was dispatched to Snyder’s Pharmacy in Poplar Grove for a report of a Retail Theft. BCS Deputy spoke with the complainant who stated that a subject had come into the store and stole items. The subject was arrested and transported to the BCJ.
On Aug. 21 at approximately 10:21 p.m., a BCS Deputy responded to the 1500 Block of Rockton Road for damage to vehicle complaint. BCS Deputy made contact with the complainant who stated that her car had been damaged.
On Aug. 23, at 4:48 p.m., BCS Deputy responded to the 2500 Block of Anderson Dr. to meet with a complainant in reference to damage to the rear of his property. Investigation Continues.
