Girls team finishes fifth in NIC-10 with 9-9 record

    Harlem secured its 10th win of the season on senior night by beating Rockford East, 56-51, on Friday.

    It wasn’t easy. The Huskies let a 13-point, first-half lead slip away only to win with a late fourth-quarter run.

    Bo Beehler scored 11 points in the first two quarters to help Harlem build a 34-21 lead. East’s Daniel Cole, though, was fouled shooting a three-pointer and made all of his foul shots to cut the lead to 10 at teh intermission.

    The E-Rabs seized the momentum in the third quarter, starting the second half with a 16-2 run to take the lead.

    Harlem was trailing 45-44 with 2:01 remaining in the fourth quarter when Tyce Koerner put them back ahead with a three-point shot. That ignited a 9-0 run that cemented the win for Harlem.

    Koerner and Beehler ended up scoring 12 points each to lead Harlem. Eight of Koerner’s 12 came in the second half.

    The Huskies improved to 10-18 overall and 5-11 in the NIC-10 with games left at Jefferson and Boylan.

Girls finish NIC-10 play at 9-9

    Harlem’s girls basketball team went 1-1 this past week, scoring a 44-33 win over Aurora Rosary Catholic before dropping its final NIC-10 game to Boylan, 49-28.

    Alyssa Fulton led the way on Tuesday against Aurora with 19 points on 11-of-13 shooting from the free throw line.

    Points were harder to come by at Boylan. Olivia O’Laughlin led the Huskies with eight points and eight rebounds.

    Harlem completed NIC-10 play at 9-9, finishing fifth.
