Shirland School Music Department to present Disney Moana, Jr.
Disney’s Moana Jr. is playing at Shirland School on Thursday, March 14 and Friday, March 15 at 7 p.m. This musical adventure, designed for middle school-aged performers, is based on the 2016 Disney film Moana.
The Shirland School Music Department cast includes approximately 50 third through eighth grade students directed by Ms. Dawn Heavilin and assisted by Mrs. Heather Dobnick, Mrs. Ciara Fischer-James, Mrs. Rebecca Clinite, Mrs. Hannah Pals, and many others. Costumes, set design, and scenery are brought in from the talents of Beverly Velmers, Mrs. Fischer-James, and the Shirland Art Department.
Sound engineer is Jamie Wilson. Many former Shirland alumni are also helping with makeup and hair for this production.
See the line where the sky meets the sea? You’ll love this thrilling and heartwarming stage adaptation of the coming-of-age tale of Moana (Kira Quillen) as she ignores her father Chief Tui (Jordan Paul) and listens to her Gramma Tala’s advice (Maddie Pals).
Moana sets sail across the Pacific to save her village and discover the truth about her heritage. She and the demigod Maui (Billy Hoff) embark on an epic journey of self-discovery where they meet the shiny crab Tamatoa (Nick Sprigler).
She learns to harness the power that lies within. Adapted for young performers, this musical includes favorite songs by Tony, GRAMMY, Emmy, and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foa’i, and Mark Mancina, such as “How Far I’ll Go,” “Shiny,” and “You’re Welcome.” With its empowering message of bravery, Moana Jr. is sure to awaken your inner hero!
