“Let’s say the names of our victims more than we say the names of those accused of these heinous crimes.”
Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara issued the following statement:
“It’s hard to grasp how this could happen and how emotional and raw the community is tonight. This has been one of the most difficult weeks I have seen in my seven years as Mayor. As a dad, a son, a husband, the Mayor and a Rockford supporter, my heart is breaking for those who have lost their lives, their families and our community. If you are a person of prayer, please take a minute and pray for the victims, survivors, their families and our community.
“This is, obviously, a huge blow to all of us. However, in Rockford fashion, we get knocked down, sometimes too much, but we always get back up stronger. If you or someone you know has been impacted by this week’s incidents, please seek help. The emotions so many are feeling of sadness, anger, frustration and loss are real.
“We have partnered with RPS 205 and Rosecrance to offer free counseling Thursday and Friday at Flinn Middle School, 2525 Ohio Parkway.
“Let’s lift each other up and be strong together.”
There are five additional victims who were transported to local hospitals and are currently being treated for serious injuries.
This is a very active and multi-level, multi-agency investigation and has an extensive amount of moving parts. As with any investigation, further details and charges may come at a later date.
