Harlem’s girls bowling team won the Illinois State Championship recently, marking their eighth state championship.
The most dominant dynasty in the NIC-10 added its eighth state title this past weekend.
Harlem’s girls bowling team started out hot Friday, rolling a 1,100 in the first game – a 220 average – and then steadily pulling away.
The final margin was 11,796 for Harlem and 11,580 for second place Joliet West. Fellow NIC-10 power Hononegah had a strong final game to finish in third place.
Harlem’s power was its depth. Junior Ashlin Teves was the leader throughout the tournament. She finished second in the state with 2,561 over six games, a 213.4 average. Alison Roberts came in 28th, Sara Wilson was 31st, Hailey Semenchuk 36th and Alexis Born finished 53rd. None of the five bowlers Harlem used this past weekend were seniors.
Harlem’s girls bowling program first made it to state in 1993. The Huskies won their first state title 2000 and added titles in 2001 and 2002. Harlem added titles No. 4 and 5 in 2005 and 2011 and then won back-to-back championships in 2017 and 2018.
Since the 2018 title, Harlem had finished second in the state three times and third once before this weekend’s breakthrough.
