First responders arrived at 705 John St. following reports of wires sparking and a structure fire. The Belvidere Fire Department, along with county-wide units, quickly responded to the scene to contain the hazard and ensure public safety.

On June 3, emergency responders were dispatched to 705 John Street following reports of wires sparking and a structure fire. The Belvidere Fire Department, along with county-wide units, quickly responded to the scene to contain the hazard and ensure public safety.

At approximately 1:17 p.m., dispatch received calls regarding sparking wires near the residence. Units responded promptly, discovering a downed power line extending from a utility pole to the house, causing electrical arcing and a fire.

The county-wide response was initially activated but later canceled as the situation was brought under control. The fire was successfully extinguished by 2:07 p.m., with overhaul operations completed shortly thereafter.

Due to the downed power lines, ComEd was immediately notified to disconnect power safely. The local Street Department was also engaged to install barricades and secure the area for public safety.

All units, except those supporting the street department, were cleared by approximately 2:30 p.m., and the incident was officially closed at 2:51 p.m.

No injuries were reported during the incident. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Belvidere Fire Department reminds residents to stay clear of downed power lines and to report any electrical hazards immediately.
