Belvidere North boys’ golf team defeats Freeport

POPLAR GROVE – The Belvidere North High School varsity boys’ golf team defeated Freeport High School in a match at Timber Pointe Golf Club in Poplar Grove. Belvidere North won 162 to 193.
The game came with outstanding performances from the top five athletes on the Blue Thunder team scoring the four lowest with Josh Cassaro scoring a 37, Cam Batson with a 39, Garrett Nelson a 42, and Jake Dykstra and Adam Veruchi tying for fourth with a total of 44 points.
Very close to the top five was Brenton Payne of BNHS with a score of 45.
Freeport just could not catch up to the impressive performances from the Belvidere North athletes.
Freeport’s top four athletes consisted of McLain with a 42, Withrow and Bastain with 50s, and Ruckman with 51. Also close to them was teammate Hechner who had a score of 53 points.
All of the players were in a pretty close distance of one another, but North still took the victory all six players making it into the 30s and 40s.
