Belvidere North boys’ golf team defeats Rockford East

ROCKFORD – The Belvidere North High School boys’ golf team defeated Rockford East High School in a match at Sandy Hollow Golf Course in Rockford on Monday, Aug. 31.
Belvidere Blue Thunder took the match, but it was a close call, with Rockford East only scoring 7 more points than North.
BNHS came out victorious in the end due to the technique of its top players. Josh Cassaro scored the lowest with a 37, followed by Cam Batson with a 40, Jake Dykstra with a 42, and Garrett Nelson with a 43 to total an overall team score of 162.
On the Belvidere Blue Thunder team, Adam Veruchi and Brenton Payne both had impressive games, scoring a 47 and a 48.
Rockford East gave it their all with three of their top four players receiving the same scores as some of the top players from North. Ketcham scored a 37 to match Cassaro, Finley scored a 42 to match Dykstra, and Lambert scored a 43 to match Garret Nelson.
In the end, it came down to the final scores, where Bunch fell a bit short in scoring a 47, which put Rockford East High School 7 points past what Belvidere North finished within the end.
Rockford East also received support from teammates Roskowic who scored a 49 and Masters who scored a 48.
All in all, the victory went to Belvidere North keeping them on a winning streak.
