Aggravated battery with firearm occurs in Belvidere
BELVIDERE – On Tuesday, Dec. 15, at 7:59 a.m. Belvidere Police and Belvidere Fire Department responded to the 400 block of W. Jackson St. for a report of shots fired. Patrol officers arrived on scene and made contact with a 47-year-old, white female with a gunshot wound to the leg.
Preliminary investigation shows that an altercation occurred between the white female, a 46-year-old white male, and Ronald L. Ball, 69 of Rockford. During the altercation Ball fired a round which struck the female in the leg. The white male and female were able to take the gun away from Ball and subdue him until police arrived.
Ball and the white female were transported from the scene by lifeline ambulance to St. Anthony Hospital.
There are no indications, at this time, that the injuries are life threatening.
Belvidere police detectives responded to the scene and the investigation is ongoing and criminal charges are anticipated.
