Blue Thunder JV faces loss to Indians

BELVIDERE – On Friday, Jan. 29, at 5:30 p.m., Belvidere North’s sophomore basketball team faced off against the Hononegah Indians.
The first quarter began with back and forth two pointers with the two teams remaining neck and neck through the first period. It wasn’t until the last 40 seconds of the first quarter that Hononegah took their first lead. The score was 10 to 10 and Belvidere had possession of the ball, but Hononegah was able to steal the ball back and made a two point layup.
That ended the first period with a score of 10-12.
The second quarter started off slowly. Neither team scored for the first few minutes of the quarter.
Finally, scoring began with more back and forth play between the Indians and Blue Thunder.
Then, the two teams switched from scoring back and forth to fouls and free throw shots.
With the fouls done, the teams went back and forth with two pointers and three pointers to fight for the lead.
With another foul, leading to more scores for Hononegah, the Indians kept the lead over the Blue Thunder Boys.
Belvidere North’s Epperson, #14, was able to score a two point layup, making it a one point game with a score of 18-19.
Hononegah quickly pulled away ending the first half 18-21.
The third quarter started with Belvidere North’s Yates scoring three points, tying the score at 21.
Hononegah’s Drew Rollette, #10, made a two point layup. Rollette was fouled by Belvidere North on the play and went and made a free throw shot. Belvidere North rebounded and passed the ball down the court. Belvidere North’s Epperson put the ball up for two points.
Hononegah’s Ryan made the next point with a three point shot. Belvidere North followed that play with a three point shot made by Sam Sisco, #13.
With only four minutes left of the third quarter, Hononegah’s Ryan, made another shot with a two point basket made from underneath the basket.
Hononegah’s Nicholas Pierson, #32, made both his free throws off a Belvidere North foul. With only 1:56 left of the third period, North’s Yates, scored two points.
Hononegah came back with two, two pointers before North came back with a free throw and another two pointer. The third ended 31-35.
Hononegah’s Brayden Hennis, #20, began the fourth quarter with a three point shot for the Indians. Belvidere North’s Tyler Parod, #1, made a layup. With 5:45 left of the game, Hononegah’s Pierson made a two point shot.
Belvidere North’s Jack Ahlenius, #12, made one free throw and then a two pointer.
Hononegah made the next score with a three point shot, taking their lead up to 36-43.
Hononegah’s Pierson, made a two point basket. With 3:20 left of the game, Belvidere North’s Diercks attempted to make a three point shot but missed. Hononegah recovered the rebound and passed it to Schindler, #33, who made a two point layup.
Hononegah’s Cadwell, #22, made the next shot with a two point layup and only 1:45 left of the game. Hononegah’s Hennis also made a two point basket after Hononegah recovered a Belvidere rebound. Hononegah’s Althoff made two free throw shots and brought the Indians lead up to 36-53.
With 28 seconds left of the game, Hononegah’s Micah Voigt, #5, was fouled by Belvidere North. Voigt went to the free throw line and made both of his extra shots to end the game with a final score of 36-55.
