CHARLOTTE – Franklin Axel Walberg, of Charlotte, NC passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on Jan. 9 in the Harris Hospice Unit of Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center.
He was born in McHenry County, Ill. and was the son of the late Axel H. and Signe M. Anderson Walberg.
He was predeceased by one brother and five sisters. Having lived and worked in Belvidere, Ill., he owned and operated Hobbyland Pet Store for more than 25 years.
Following his retirement in 1989 he moved to Charlotte, NC. For 17 years he was fondly known as “The Rabbit Man” at the Cherryville/Dallas Flea Market.
His wife, Donna M. Carter Walberg, recently passed away on Feb. 12.
Those left to cherish his memory are daughters: Suzanne W. Coleman and husband Stephen, of Charlotte, NC, Sandra K. Forrester of Rockford, Ill., Sharon L. Treadway (the late Ron Treadway) of Newton, NC and Signe M. Curry of Charlotte, NC; 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 18 in the Paul Helton Chapel of Forest Lawn West Funeral and Cremation Service with family receiving friends prior to the service from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.
Inurnment followed the service in Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
