DEA, Narcotics Units team up for drug arrest
BOONE COUNTY – On Thursday, Feb. 18, a long term investigation by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Task Force, Rockford Police Narcotics Unit and the Belvidere/Boone County Metro Narcotics Unit, assisted by the Boone County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit, resulted in the arrest of a Rockford resident on felony drug charges.
Roy Jones, 54, of Rockford, was charged with one count of Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance (15 to 100 grams cocaine) a (Class X Felony) and Unlawful Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance (100 to 400 grams cocaine) a (Super Class X Felony).
Jones remains in the custody of the Boone County Jail on $1,000,000 bond.
On Thursday, Feb. 18, the Belvidere/Boone County Metro Narcotics Unit and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Task Force, assisted by the Boone County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit, arrested Jones on one count of Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance (Cocaine) and one count of Unlawful Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance.
A search warrant was subsequently executed in the 200 Block of Regan St. in Rockford. The investigation resulted in the seizure of a controlled substance (cocaine), digital scale(s), drug packaging materials, a kilo press, a vehicle and over $7,000 U.S. currency.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible. Each Class X Felony is punishable by six to 30 years in the Department of Corrections. A Super Class X Felony is punishable by nine to 40 years in the Department of Corrections.
