PRINCETON – The Taylor Rockridge Rockets took down the Winnebago Indians at Sectionals for the second straight year. Last year the Rockets ended the Indians season in the first round of the Farmington Sectional. This year they ended the Indians season at the Princeton Sectional final with a 45-38 win.

Winnebago fell behind by 12, 21-9, in the second quarter of the game, but were able to close the gap to 10 points, 23-13 at halftime.

The Indians showed some life in the third quarter as they were able to come back and bring the game within two points, but they could never muster enough to overcome the hump.

Missed shots and missed free throws did the Indians in. They were able to hang with the Rockets but just couldn’t get the job done. The Indians were just 2 of 10 shooting in the first quarter, and they followed that up with six straight misses to start the second quarter.

The Rockets went 6-7 from the free throw line in the closing minutes to keep the Indians at bay and walk away with the win.

Dan Rosenstiel’s four 3-pointers for 12 points led the Indians in scoring, with Andrew Morrissey following up with 11 points and a team high 11 rebounds. Brandon Suggs finished 4-8 from the field for 8 points, adding nine rebounds and three blocked shots in his high school farewell.

The Indians got to the Sectional Final by knocking off Kewanee High on Wednesday, March 2, 53-36. Kewanee hung with the Indians for the first quarter of that game, but then the Indians were able to land their shots and pulled away for a comfortable victory.
