BELVIDERE – Belvidere North sophomore Sebastian Gutierrez and senior Eryk Yunk claimed places Saturday, May 28 at the boys’ state track meet in Charleston.

Gutierrez finished in a tie for ninth place in the high jump, clearing six feet, three inches. The winning effort was six feet, 10 inches.

To reach the finals he reached six feet, four inches during Friday’s preliminaries, which gave him a tie for first place in Flight One. He qualified for state by going six feet, nine inches in the sectional.

Two North distance runners also were at state, with Yunk taking 10th place in Saturday’s finals in the 3,200-meter run, with a time of 9:26.62.

Another senior, Eli Walker, was ninth in Heat Two of Friday’s preliminaries in the 1,600-meter run, and did not qualify for the Saturday competition. His time was 4:27.10.
