Sgt. P’s Lapghans for Veterans will host the first annual Stars and Stripes 3K/5K Fun Run/Walk. Stars and Stripes will begin at 7 a.m. with registration and the run will begin at 8 a.m. The day will be filled with prizes, raffles, lapghan presentations to veterans, and more. This event will take place at Belvidere Park-Kiddieland Shelter, located at 1006 W. North Boone Fire District III Firefighters Association will host the 15th annual Street Dance rain or shine. The event will begin at 11 a.m. and run all the way to midnight. Starting at 11 a.m. and ending at 6 p.m., there will be a “Just Bring It and Show It” Car show. For more information on the car show, contact Mike at (847) 815-5692. From 11 a.m. to midnight, there will be a beer garden, followed by bingo from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., and a bags tournament, with registration beginning at 4:30 p.m. and the Titletournament beginning at 5 p.m. Beginning at 6 p.m., live music will start and run until midnight. The featured act for the live music is Clutch Cargo. Plus, there will be the North Boone District III Street Dance Raffle with first place winning $1,000, second place winning $700, third place wining $500, fourth place winning $300, and fifth place winning $100 worth of gas from J and D Countryside Marathon. The drawing will be held at the Street Dance. There will only be 1,500 tickets sold for the prizes. Ticket holders need not be present to win. Raffle tickets can be purchased for $5 each or five for $20. All proceeds will go toward emergency equipment. All of the events for the Street Dance will take place at North Boone Fire Station and Poplar Grove Lions Park off of Route 173.

 

The public is welcome to come to the Coon Creek Castors 28th annual Carp-a-thon at U.A.W. Hall, located at 1100 Chrysler Dr. in Belvidere. Admission for the event will be $5 for adults or $3 for children 15-years-old and younger. Tickets are available at: Angler’s Edge Fishing and Marine, at 217 E. Riverside in Loves Park; Belvidere Ace Hardware, at 302 Meadow St. in Belvidere; Belvidere Auto Clinic, at 301 W. Locust in Belvidere; and Dave’s Bait and Tackle, at 901 Bayliss in Beloit. Scales will open at 7 a.m. and will close at 4 p.m. First place will receive $200 and a trophy. Cash and prizes will be awarded to the top 20 places, and 28th place will receive $228. TitleCoinciding with the Carp-a-thon, there will be a beer tent provided by the U.A.W. Veterans Committee. Plus, the event will have prizes, raffles, kids’ games, food, and a DJ. Special prizes from the raffle drawing include $500 cash and a Coon Creek Casters fishing kayak.

 

The 6th annual Life is a Highway Bike Run and Show will be held from noon to 9 p.m. at the American Legion, located at 900 Chrysler Dr. in Belvidere. The Life is a Highway Bike Run and Show will benefit the Easter Seals Therapeutic School and Center for Autism in Rockford. Local youth have the chance to join the Belvidere Shamrocks 12u and 13u Baseball Travel Teams. Try-outs for the 2016-17 season will be held at 10 a.m. at Belvidere Central Middle School, located at 8787 Beloit Road in Belvidere. The makeup-rain-out date for try-outs will be Aug. 7 at 10 a.m. The Shamrocks participate in USSSA regional and local tournaments. Players for the 13u team must be 13-years-old by April 30, 2017.
