Alpacas

POPLAR GROVE – On Saturday, Sept. 26 and Sunday, Sept. 27, Alpaca Pines, located at 21756 Beaverton Road in Poplar Grove, hosted Alpaca Days.

Alpaca Days was a family-friendly event where people could go feed and play with the numerous alpacas at Alpaca Pines.  People of all ages enjoyed their time with the alpacas.

Visitors could buy a little cup of food for 50 cents to take into the barn and pasture to feed the alpacas. Everyone who visited couldn’t help but spend their hard earned dollars to feed the friendly alpacas.

The alpacas definitely enjoyed the extra food the visitors provided. The brown, black, and white alpacas all chased the visitors around the barn and pasture area in hopes of sneaking more food out of the food cups and out of the patron’s hands.

Everyone was filled with laughter when the alpacas’ mouths tickled their hands as the alpacas nibbled on the food mixture.

If spending a day with the alpacas wasn’t enough, Alpaca Pines also had yarn, socks, kids’ sweaters, scarves, hats, raw fiber, and more for sale. While browsing for items to purchase, visitors could learn fun facts about alpacas and view daily demonstrations on the spinning wheel.

Set up in the same barn as the “gift shop” area was a kids’ arts and crafts corner where they could decorate alpaca themed art.

Plus, Alpaca Pines was the host of the Coley’s Ice Cream Truck from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on both days. If kids brought a clipping of the Alpaca Days ad out of the paper, they would “receive a free ice cream” from Coley’s Ice Cream Truck.

By the end of the weekend, the visitors for Alpaca Days went home with fond memories of their time with the alpacas, and the alpacas went to bed with full stomachs from their bonding time with their human visitors.
