Annual street dance draws thousands for a day of fun

North Boone Fire District Street Dance was held Aug. 4 at the Poplar Grove fire station. 69 antique and collectable cars came out in the 90 degree plus weather to compete for trophies and prizes while others came to “Paint the Hill” in the extensive fire station parking lot for a $5 donation. “We call it Paint the Hill because this is Hill St. and we are hoping the event will expand to fill this space,” said North Boone District #3 volunteer firefighter Dan DalPra. “The Boone County Arts Council gave us lots of advice.
“We’re just trying to figure out more stuff for a day out for kids.”
Brats, hamburgers, and beer were served all day by the firefighter and, at 2 p.m. OSF Life Flight flew in the rescue helicopter to demonstrate to the crowd exactly how they handle patients during a traffic accident.
“OSF is demonstrating CPR about every 20 minutes from 1 to 4 p.m.” said DelPra.
