Becoming a US Citizen Workshop continues with success
BELVIDERE –On Saturday, April 2, State Representative Joe Sosnowski co-hosted a US Citizen Workshop with Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) and The New Americans Campaign. The workshop provided eligible immigrants with citizenship application assistance, legal screening and test preparation services.
Illinois is home to more than 1.8 million immigrants. On average 61,000 immigrants in Illinois become legal permanent residents.
Representative Sosnowski (R-Rockford) partnered with immigrant community based organizations to encourage civic engagement and integration.
“Navigating the US citizenship process can be difficult and confusing. Citizen Workshops are a valuable tool utilized by many communities to help applicants through the challenging process,” Representative Sosnowski said. “I was very pleased many individuals and families took advantage of this workshop and I look forward to connecting future immigrants to these invaluable services.”
ICIRR hosts additional workshops throughout Illinois. Interested individuals are encouraged to visit their website at: icirr.org. A list of requirements and documentation necessary to complete the citizenship application are identified on their website.
