Belvidere Barracudas swim team heads to regionals

ST. JOHN, Ind.- The Belvidere Barracudas Swim Team competed in the 2016 Illinois YMCA State Championships on March 19 and March 20, at Lake Central Aquatic Center is St. John, Ind.
Throughout the two day event, the Barracudas took to the podium in a variety of individual and relay events.
Coached by Matthew Kopald, the team took 17th in point standings overall, with the 12 and under girl’s taking eighth place in the state.
Individual medalists for Top 10 State Finishers included Mikayla Gavina, Sonia McClain, Abby Muck and Dellana Muck.
The Barracudas had four different relay teams medal and two of them broke long standing team records.
The entire Barracuda State Team included: Andrew Butzow, Stephanie Cippola, Isabel Drella, Sarah Fitzgerald, Arielle Gavina, Mikayla Gavina, Ysabelle Gavina, Daniel Golonka, Violet Halgren, Riley Johnson, Sarah Johnson, Joshua Jordan, Kaiya Kolberg, Drew Mateja, Madeline McClain, Sonya McClain, Kayle Mickey, Abigail Muck, Dellana Muck, Devon Page, Dylan Page, Alyssa Petersen, Chloe Sanford, Payton Sanford, Ashlyi Tucker, Oryi Tucker, and Matthew Walsh.
The team moves onto Regionals on April 2 and 3 at the University of Minnesota.
