Belvidere girl’s co-op golf team defeats Hononegah
POPLAR GROVE – The Belvidere varsity girl’s co-op golf team defeated Hononegah High School in a close home game on Tuesday, Aug. 25 at Timber Pointe Golf Course at 4 p.m. in Poplar Grove.
The Belvidere team won by a small margin of only 4 points of 191 to Hononegah’s 195.
The win came with impressive scores for the top four players on the Belvidere team. Maddie Strum scored the lowest with a 45, followed closely by Brenna Rieches with a 48, and Sara Redig and Morgan McNulty tying for the final two scores with a score of 49 each.
The Belvidere girls received strong support from their other teammates, Chirstine Chustak who scored a 63 and Josie Rieches, who scored a 67.
The Hononegah girl’s were very close to winning with their top scorers Chelsea Meyer and Audrey Johnson both scoring 48’s. Their teammates were not far behind with Erin Markley scoring a 49, Emma and Sophia Nelson both scoring 50’s, and Emily Schultz scoring a 51.
In the end, the close results landed in Belvidere’s favor putting them at a match record of 2-0.
