With a great start to the season, the Belvidere girls’ co-op golf team, featuring players from both Belvidere High School and Belvidere North High School, continues to strengthen their season lead with another win.

On Thursday, Aug. 25, the girls took on Hononegah at a home game set at Timber Pointe Golf Club in Poplar Grove. Although it was a close game with scores only differing by 11 points, the Belvidere girls took home the victory with 194 points over Hononegah’s 205 points.

Morgan McNulty struck her way into the limelight by having the lowest score of the Belvidere girls’ team with a total of 46 points.

Maddie Sturm and Sara Redig took the next place in line, with both of them ending with an admirable final score of 47 points.

Rounding out the top four was Natalie Altintop with 54 points to provide the winning team score of 194 points.

Teammates Christine Chustak and Gracie Thies put in good efforts as well with their final scores ending in 63 and 65.

Despite Belvidere’s win, the top athlete came from Hononegah’s team with Sophia Nelson scoring 44 points overall. Due to her low score, Nelson was the match medalist.

Unfortunately for Nelson, her teammates didn’t help secure a win with their totals all ranging in the 50s and 60s. Rounding out the top four were Sydney Brigedan with 50 points, Emma Nelson with 55 points and Kana Hall with 56 points.

The two other Hononegah players did their best as well and weren’t far off the lead with Emily Schultz ending with 57 points and Katie Glime ending with 62 points.

The scores just couldn’t match the Belvidere co-op team’s effort.

Coach Dan Koening and the rest of the Belvidere community will continue to cheer for the girl’s who are off to a great start for the season.

“Congratulations to the Belvidere girls’ golf team for defeating Hononegah 194 to 205 Thursday at Timber Pointe Golf Course. That brings the team record to 3-1. Keep up the great work, girls.”
