BELVIDERE – On Monday, April 11, the Belvidere Bucs boys’ volleyball team competed against Keith High School at a match set at Belvidere High School.
With a rough start in the beginning, Keith took the first game win over Belvidere. The Bucs were close and didn’t give up hope, despite the disappointing loss in the first game. Keith won 26-24.
The Bucs came back in game two. Although the scores were still close, Belvidere managed to win by two points with a final total of 25-23.
Then, it all came down to the third game to see who would win the match. Belvidere didn’t want another close call and mustered up enough strength to take a 10 point victory over Keith High School. Belvidere won the game 25-15.
The match win came with impressive performances from the Belvidere players.
Sam Murphy had 10 kills and eight digs throughout the match with Trent Boland matching with eight digs as well.
Chris Kateal assisted in 12 shots and had six digs of his own against Keith.
Topping out on digs, was Dan Miziniak who had a total of 11 digs throughout the match.
With hard work from the boys, Belvidere improved their conference record to 2-1 and their overall record to 3-1.
Then, the Belvidere Bucs varsity boys’ volleyball team came out strong again on Tuesday, April 12 against Hononegah High School.
Again, the Bucs face a tough opponent, with the two games being very close in the end scores.
The Bucs won the first round of play 25-23 and the second game 27-25 to take the match.
Despite the win, the match was a close call with Hononegah’s Clayton Bee having three kills, three aces, and two blocks. Not to mention, Bee’s teammate having two kills, three aces, and one block.
The Bucs were able to hold out strong with Sam Murphy having seven kills, two assists and Chris Kutcel having seven assists in the match.
This put Belvidere at a conference record of 3-1 and an overall record of 4-1.
