BELVIDERE – In a cross-town mash-up between Belvidere North High School and Belvidere High School, the Blue Thunder boys’ golf teams brought home the victories for both varsity and junior varsity. The match set at Timber Pointe Golf Club in Poplar Grove on Wednesday, Sept. 23, led the BNHS team to victory with an overall total of 165-182.

All of Belvidere North’s varsity players did extremely well. Josh Cassaro received the lowest score out of both teams with a 38. Garrett Nelson and Cam Batson quickly followed with scores of 41 and 42.

The last three players on the Belvidere North team all tied for the last score to make up their team’s overall total. Jacob Dykstra, Tony Lazzerini, and Adam Veruchi all scored a 44 to put their team’s winning total to 165.

Although Belvidere did not win, the boys did well with all of them scoring in the 40s and 50s. Larry Larsen was the lowest scoring player on the varsity Bucs team with a 43. Following closely behind were Brandon Bishoff with a44, Dylan Boardman with a 47, and Ryan Snyder with a 48.

Unfortunately, for the Bucs, the four lowest scores all in the 40s just weren’t enough to take the victory away from the BNHS team.

BNHS won by only 17 points.

In the junior varsity game, Belvidere North also took home the victory against the cross-town rival, Belvidere Bucs. Junior Varsity Blue Thunder beat the Bucs 181-245.

Matt Konkler brought home the lowest score on the JV team with a 43. Closely behind in scoring for Blue Thunder were Brenton Payne with a 45, Kaden Cunningham with a 46, and Nate Lyons and JD Kirane tying for the last slot with a 47.

On the Bucs, Jessie Theis took home the lowest score with a 55, followed by Xander Gehrke with a 60, Kris Worden with a 62, and Tanner Pavlak with a 65.

The JV BNHS won by 64 points.
