The Belvidere North High School varsity boys’ golf team is on a roll this season with four wins and two losses for their season tally. Their latest win came on Wednesday, Aug. 31 when they faced Rockford East High School at a home game set at Timber Pointe Golf Course in Poplar Grove.
Belvidere North not only won the match against East, but they dominated the turf with a low score of 155 points compared to East’s finally score of 230 points.
The difference in scores came from North’s everlasting improvement on the course. At the start of the golf season, Belvidere North’s scores ranged in the 40’s and 50’s. As the season has progressed, the scores are becoming lower and lower with scores dropping to the 30s and 40s.
Not only have scores dropped, but the Blue Thunder teammates’ scores have become more in-sync with one another.
For instance, in the Wednesday game, Josh Cassaro finished with a final score of 38. Three of his teammates tied for second, third, and fourth place with 39 points. These teammates were Brenton Payne, Adam Veruchi, and Jacob Dykstra.
Not far from the top four finishers were teammates Bennett Baker with a 40 overall and Garrett Nelson with an end score of 44.
Clearly, East could not keep up with Belvidere North’s talent.
The first place finisher for East, didn’t even crack the scores of the top four on North’s team. Jack Master IV finished with 42 points.
His teammates had a hard time catching the leaders as well with Brandon Bunch, Nicholas Rundle, and Jackson Marshall rounding out the top four with scores ranging from 47 to 69 to 72.
Finishing way off of the leaders were East’s John Sandberg and Holden Lee. Sandberg finished with 81 points, and Lee finished with 74 points.
The Blue Thunder boys hope their skills add up when they face Woodstock North High School in their next match set at home at Timber Pointe Golf Course in Poplar Grove on Tuesday, Sept. 6. The match will begin at 4 p.m.
