On Wednesday, Aug. 24, the Belvidere North High School varsity boys’ golf team faced off against Hononegah in a home game set at Timber Pointe Golf Club in Poplar Grove. Belvidere North lost in a close game only losing by 11 points. The Blue Thunder boys finished with 173 points and Hononegah finished with 162 points.

Both teams had strong scores, but Hononegah pulled ahead with Varoon Menon finishing with a 37 overall.

The other Hononegah athletes had substantially low scores as well. Rounding out the top four were Ethan Neumer with 40 points, Ben Fiege with 41 points, and Jackson Cadwell with 44 points.

Hononegah also had low scores from Jacob McCabe with 47 points and Koy Johnson with 53 points.

Although Belvidere North also had steady and low scores, the scores just weren’t enough to catch the even lower Hononegah.

The top three athletes for Belvidere North all scored a total of 43 points each. These athletes were Josh Cassaro, Bennett Baker, and Adam Veruchi. Scoring for the last score on the team came with a tie from Brenton Payne and Garrett Nelson, who only scored one point higher than the leaders. They finished the game with 44 points.

Right behind the top athletes was Jacob Dykstra who finished with a still impressive 46 points.

Although they did not win the match, the Blue Thunder boys can still be proud of their low scores.
