BELVIDERE – The Boone County Track and Field Invitational set at Belvidere North High School on Wednesday, March 9, featured teams from Belvidere North High School, Belvidere High School, and North Boone High School.
Belvidere North swept the competition with the most wins between the three teams. Including heats, preliminaries, and finals, Belvidere North was victorious with a total of 174 points in the end. Belvidere High School came in second with 58 points, and North Boone came in third with 30 points.
Varsity
With Belvidere North High School being known for its top notch runners, there was no surprise with the Blue Thunder team taking most of the top positions in the track portion of the invitational.
Men’s 55 Meters
In the men’s 55 meter race, Belvidere North’s Jason Rodgers and Jared Cantu won the first two heats with Belvidere High’s Elijah Elias winning the third heat.
Cantu moved on to win the preliminary round with Elias in second and Rodgers in third. In the finals, Cantu stayed on top with Rodgers moving into second and Elias falling to third.
Men’s 200 Meters
In the men’s 200 meter race, North Boone came out on top in the first sectional round with Griffin Schuster leading the pack. In the second sectionals race, the Bucs held the top position with Damian Whitehead as the leader.
In the final results, Belvidere’s Whitehead took the top spot with North Boone’s Cesar Hernandez sliding into second right in front of teammate Schuster.
Men’s 400 Meters
In the men’s 400 meter race, the sectionals were dominated by Belvidere North’s Andrew Olszewski and Will Palmer. In the final race, Will Palmer came in first followed by Olszewski and Belvidere North’s Ignacio Avila.
Men’s 800 Meters
In the men’s 800 meter race, Belvidere North again took the top spot with Jake Martocci coming in first, followed by North’s Alec Beutel, and Blue Thunder’s Brandt Lerma.
Men’s 1600 Meters
The men’s 1600 meter race went to Blue Thunder as well with Jared Ellingson in first, Eryk Yunk in second, followed by North Boone’s Skyler Yunk in third.
Men’s 55 Meter Hurdle
Add obstacles to the track, no problem; Belvidere North can conquer those too. North’s Tyler Sawallisch came in first followed by North’s Andrew Olszewski, and the Bucs’ Yash Musabji.
Men’s 4×160 Meter Relay
The Belvidere North relay team came in first with Tomas Gutierrez, Tyler Sawallisch, Jared Cantu, and Jason Rodgers leading the team to victory.
Men’s 4×400 Meter Relay
Belvidere North came back strong with a win from their relay team consisting of Ethan Hodzic, Eli Walker, Brandt Lerma, and Tyler Sawallisch.
Men’s 4×800 Meter Relay
North Boone and Belvidere High Schools were no match for North yet again. Blue Thunder’s team came in on top in 8:34.65 with Alec Scott, Will Palmer, Eli Walker, and Eryk Yunk.
Men’s High Jump
Belvidere North added another victory to their roster with Tomas Guitierrez placing first, followed by North Boone’s Griffin Schuster and Skyler Yunk.
Men’s Pole Vault
The Belvidere Bucs celebrated a win when Daniel Martin came out on top in the varsity pole vault event. Belvidere North came in second and third with Naseef Pawlitz and Andrew Olszewski.
Men’s Long Jump
North Boone celebrated their own victory when Thomas Lee led the long jumpers ahead of Belvidere North athletes Logan Dunham in second and Tyler Sawallisch in third.
Men’s Shot Put
North Boone led the pack again with Nick Krawczyk in first followed by Mike Kissel of Belvidere North in second and Josh Shableau of Blue Thunder in third.
Freshman/Sophomore
Belvidere North had more competition for the top spots in the Freshman/Sophomore events at the Boone County Invitational.
Men’s 55 Meters
The Bucs came out on top in three of the four heats with first place going to Jake Ozartun, Alonso Alfaro, and Jesse Mendoza from Belvidere. Winning the other heat was Blue Thunder’s Cruz Garza. Garza went on to win the preliminary and the final 55 meter races.
Men’s 200 Meters
In the men’s 200 meter race, the Bucs won two of the three sectionals with Danial Francis and Kevin Marcial on top. Also winning a sectional was Riley Kirane from Belvidere North. In the end, North came out on top with Kirane snagging the top spot in the final followed by Gaven Alcantara of North and Danial Francis of Belvidere.
Men’s 400 Meters
Belvidere North dominated the 400 meter race with Chris Winters and Gaven Alcantara winning the sectionals and Winters moving on to win the finals, followed by Alcantara in second, and North’s Bryce Seri in third.
Men’s 800 Meters
Belvidere North added yet another victory with Dain Kuss taking first in the 800 meter race followed by teammate Jack Macaluso and North Boone’s Blake Walters in third.
Men’s 1600 Meters
North swept another round with Tyler Paddock in first, Virgil Munyeman in second, and Logan Walsh in third.
Men’s 55 Meter Hurdle
Another sweep for Blue Thunder came with Alex Frisch in first, Chris Winters in second, and Adam Soper in third.
Men’s 4×160 Meter Relay
The Bucs came back for another win with Jordan Hirsh, Jesse Mendoza, Kalen Murray, and Dalton Vaupel taking the relay team to victory over Belvidere North.
Men’s 4×400 Meter Relay
North took another relay win with Eric Rodriguez, Austin Harnois, Alex Frisch, and Adam Soper leading the team to victory over Belvidere High School.
Weightman
North Boone snagged their last win in the Weightman class of the Men’s 4×400 Meter Relay, followed by Belvidere in second and Belvidere North in third.
Men’s 4×800 Meter Relay
North came out on top again with 800 meter relay team consisting of Austin Harnois, Tyler Paddock, Virgil Munyeman, and Eric Rodriguez.
Men’s High Jump
The Bucs received another victory with Kalen Murray taking home first in the High Jump, followed by North athletes Alex Frisch and Bryce Seri.
Men’s Pole Vault
North won another event with Sean Lock being the top pole vaulter, followed by teammate Dain Kuss and Bucs athlete Jordan Hirsch.
Men’s Long Jump
The Bucs’ Kalen Murray won another event for Belvidere topping North athlete, Chance Cregeen in second, and teammate Danial Francis in third.
Men’s Shot Put
North beat out Belvidere in the Shot Put with Cruz Garza taking first place, followed by Buc athlete Jake Peterson, and North athlete Justin Downey.
