Belvidere North’s Jenna Lutzow named to state all-academic team
Belvidere North High School senior Jenna Lutzow and 25 other student-athletes from around the state have been referred to as “the embodiment of what it means to take advantage of the entire high school experience,” by Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Executive Director Craig Anderson.
That refers to the successes in the classroom and on the field of competition shared by those who have been named to the 2017 IHSA All-State Academic Team.
Jenna has had quite an 18-month period of time at North.
Last fall, she was the individual 2A state champion in cross country and led her team to its first-ever state championship. One and a half years ago, in November 2015, Jenna was second individually at state, with the Lady Blue Thunder also finishing as the runner-up.
In the spring of 2016, she finished second at state in the 800-meter run. She will be back for her final high school season in track this spring.
Some 430 student-athletes were nominated for membership on the IHSA’s most recent all-state team.
Those nominations were evaluated by a committee made up of IHSA principals and representatives of both the Illinois Activities Directors Association and the Illinois Athletic Directors Association.
To be eligible, a nominee needed to have a minimum 3.50 grade point average on a 4.0 scale, have participated in at least two IHSA-sponsored sports or activities during each of the past two years, and demonstrated outstanding citizenship.
