Belvidere Police Department asks for help in cold case death investigation
BELVIDERE – The Belvidere Police Department needs the assistance of the public in a death investigation turned cold case.
Oct. 27, marked the second anniversary of the death of a Rockford Resident, Lucy V. Sawyer-Ford. Lucy, 72, was struck and killed by a hit and run driver in Belvidere.
On Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, at approximately 4:30 a.m., the Belvidere Police Department responded to a medical call of a subject in the roadway on Beloit Road at West Hills Boulevard, in Belvidere.
Officers arrived and discovered a deceased female who had been struck by a vehicle. The offending vehicle fled the scene.
The pedestrian was identified as Lucy V. Sawyer-Ford, a 72 year old female who resided in Rockford. The initial investigation indicates that Sawyer-Ford was walking on the roadway after her vehicle had broken down near the area where she was located.
