Cameron Poole from Belvidere, who is studying elementary education at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, is competing on the men’s wheelchair basketball team for the 2023-24 season.

The UW-Whitewater men’s wheelchair basketball program is a club sport that competes nationally. The Warhawks have won 13 national championships since 1982, most recently a three-peat in 2014, 2015 and 2016. Many of the program’s alumni are Paralympic medalists.

“We have a good mix of veterans and young talent on the roster this year,” said second-year coach Jake Williams, a former Warhawk. “The older players bring experience and the younger players bring useful energy that we can utilize in a positive way. Our success will be determined by how fast we can develop the younger players and get the entire squad moving together as one in a positive direction.”

Williams, along with current UW-Whitewater team members AJ Fitzpatrick and Talen Jourdan, recently won gold medals in men’s wheelchair basketball as part of Team USA at the 2023 Parapan American Games.

The Warhawks host teams from across the United States in a home tournament in the Williams Center on Dec. 1-2. To view the tournament schedule and for more information on the men’s wheelchair basketball team at UW-Whitewater, visit www.uww.edu/rec-sports/wheelchair-athletics/mens-wcbb.
