Bernice Johnson, 91
On Wednesday, Sept. 14, at the Elsberry Nursing Home in Elsberry, Mo., Bernice Johnson, 91, passed away.
She was the beloved wife of the late Lloyd Johnson; mother of Evanie (Don) Williams of Winfield, Mo.; grandmother to Elisa (Brad) Sargent of Winnebago, Ill., Holly Harris (Eric) of Knob Noster, Mo., Kim Breckenridge of Troy, Mo. and Garth (Victoria) Breckenridge of Rockford, Ill.; and great-grandmother to Mason and Flynne Sargent, Dillon, Emma, Wyatt and Weston Breckenridge.
She also was preceded in death by parents Benjamin and Anna Lovell (nee Darmin) and two sisters, Ruby Krubert and Marie Huntress.
Bernice grew up in Belvidere, Ill. and graduated from Rockford Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1947 as a Registered Nurse.
Later, she moved to Carthage, Mo. where she worked as the night charge nurse at the nursing home for many years where she truly enjoyed caring for others. She loved animals and raised Arabian horses.
Bernice was a remarkable painter of outdoor scenes, flowers, and birds.
God blessed her with a beautiful singing voice as well.
Visitation was held at the Stygar Mid Rivers Funeral Home, located at 5987 Mid Rivers Mall Dr. in St. Charles, Mo. on Friday, Sept. 16 from 11 a.m. until time of funeral services beginning at noon at the funeral home.
Interment was held on Saturday, Sept. 17 in the Williams Cemetery in Avilla, Mo. Memorials are suggested to go to the Humane Society of St. Louis.
