BHS athlete signs National Letter of Intent
BELVIDERE – The Highland Cougar Bowling Program is proud to announce their 2016-2017 signing of a student athlete to a National Letter of Intent.
Larry Tripamer III, of Belvidere High School, has committed to the Highland Community College Bowling Program for 2016-2017.
Tripamer, a varsity bowler for the Bucs was a member of the BHS team and advanced as an individual finalist at this year’s IHSA State Championship in O’Fallon, Ill.
Tripmaer is also a current advancing finalist in the prestigious USBC Youth Junior Gold Tournament event, which will be held in Indianapolis in July.
Jeff Johnson, the Director of Bowling for Highland, has focused on particular talent for the incoming freshman.
“I am very excited to be able to sign Larry to the Highland Bowling Program,” Jeff Johnson who not only likes his abilities on the lanes, but also likes his ability to adapt to the collegiate bowling environment, said.
“Larry has shown through his years competing for Belvidere High, that he has the ability to compete amongst some of the best high school bowlers in the nation. I am excited to see how he applies that ability with what he will learn from our coaching staff to the collegiate bowling conditions. He will be a great fit in the recruiting class coming in to Highland and will be a key part in achieving our goals for “2016-2017.”
Highland Head Coach, Gail Myers, Jr., is excited about the opportunity to bring talented freshman to his team that will make the team better as a whole, while he strives to build a team that will compete for a national championship.
“Larry fits what we are looking for when we are bringing in freshman to our Highland team,” Myers Jr., who will be entering his second season as head coach of the Cougar’s men’s team, said.
“Larry throws the ball really good, is focused on his spare game, and has the mindset to stay within his means and play the lanes in a way that will not only benefit his game but the team as well. Based on Larry’s interest in bowling and the amount of work he has dedicated to his game, I’m looking forward to building on that effort and having him be a great teammate on this strong Cougar team.”
The Highland men’s bowing team, while only in their fourth year of competition, continue to surprise many with such a young program with their third consecutive berth into the Inter-Collegiate Nation Championships. That berth has heralded their outlook for the future.
The HCC men’s bowling team was consistently rated in the top 64 teams in the nation are seeded into the USBC Intercollegiate Championships with the top four teams from sectionals advancing to the National Championships. The HCC Men have advanced to sectionals the past three years.
The Highland men’s bowling team also finished fourth in the nation at the NJCAA Nationals in Buffalo, NY, last February.
The 2016-2017 bowling season begins in September 2016.
The National Letter of Intent for Larry Tripamer III was signed at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12, in the library at Belvidere High School.
