The BHS golf team raised $3,450 for the Byron School Food Pantry by having various people and businesses from the community make a donation for each birdie they made. The team is (from left): Assistant Coach Quinn Virgil, Maison Brandt, Cason Newton, Ryan Tucker, Cooper Mershon, Davis Baker, Aaron Lorenz, and Coach Brent Baker.

The Byron High School golf team, coached by Brent Baker along with assistant coach Quinn Virgil, traveled to Bloomington this past October to compete in the State Golf Championship. The team placed eighth overall in the state of Illinois and raised $3,450 for the Byron Schools Food Pantry.

Prior to departing for the state competition, Coach Baker decided to create a fun challenge to raise money from each birdie the golfers made. Various families, individuals and organizations enthusiastically supported the challenge and donated either a set amount per birdie or a lump sum amount.

Donors included Specialty Floors, Newton Family, Dos Amigos, Rita Bradford, Knodle Family, Byron Bank, Schilling Family, Dawn Glassburn, Byron Lions Club, Byron Boosters and D&W Garage – and more are continuing to donate daily.

Congratulations also goes out to the BHS golf team for their great season: Coach Brent Baker, Assistant Coach Quinn Virgil, Maison Brandt, Cason Newton, Ryan Tucker, Cooper Mershon, and Davis Baker, Aaron Lorenz.

For anyone that would like to make a donation to the Byron Schools Food Pantry, please mail or drop off a check or cash to: Byron Schools Food Pantry, Byron High School, 696 N. Colfax St., Byron, IL 61010.
