ROSCOE – A new business is opening doors to imagination. Something fun and special can be found at 11361 Main St. in Roscoe is Board & Brush Creative Studio. Inside a warm, comfortable and inviting atmosphere awaits visitors who welcome to bring snacks, desserts or beverages with them all as they create a personalized piece of one of kind piece of home décor.
“This is a creative wood and wine studio. It is a place for people to socialize while creating. Everybody who comes in can make something different,” says Board and Brush owner, Sarah Doyle.
Where did Doyle’s interest develop to have her own Board & Brush?
“I was traveling an hour and a half to take classes in Heartland Wisconsin. I always loved scrap-booking and taught related techniques. This is a mix of teaching and creating, which is a perfect blend of my passions,” shares Doyle.
The overall process of making that unique piece all begins with a piece of raw, pure wood that becomes a valued piece of finished artwork; a personal Participants chose a wood preference, sand the wood, choose a stain color, and wash, paint on a personalized custom stencil, add hanging hardware and a wax finish.
Natural aspects of the wood such as the knots, color variations and imperfections are honored. Customized stencils are produced by a computer. A variety of choices can be made out of over 100 design options with a handful released each month.
Examples of some of the creations include planter boxes, wooden trays, signs or specialized plaques. Even if someone is inexperienced Doyle will teach steps to making a special piece plus proper ways to use sandpaper, power tools, or a hammer.
Board & Brush began modestly and has quickly caught on. The original idea stems from a ladies night out including wine and crafts in one of two founder’s basements. By March of 2015 Board & Brush was officially a business venture for a pair of ladies. Both founders share a passion for creating home décor and DYI projects.
Doyle is a resident of Rockton. She and her husband have been married for 20 years, and they have two boys. She worked as a pre-school teacher at Head Start and Circles of Learning. Doyle also assisted in the reading room at Rockton Grade School.
Board & Brush Creative Studio is the perfect place to hold private parties, Girls Nights out, gain hands on experience through workshops, to host bridal showers, have a birthday party for ages five and up, to hold a fundraiser, or a corporate event. It is something fun that we can bring to the community. We can serve parties as large as 50,” said Doyle.
Board & Brush Creative Studio have five employees.
