BOONE COUNTY – Boone County State’s Attorney Michelle Courier and Blackhawk Area Council are once again offering local area youth an opportunity to learn about law as a career.

Boone County State’s Attorney Michelle Courier and Blackhawk Area Council are offering a Law Career Exploring Program this fall.  It will be a biweekly program for co-ed youth, ages 14 to 20, with a career interest in law.  Interested youth will have the opportunity to learn about careers in law through presentations and hands-on activities led by skilled attorneys and other professionals.

“The Career Exploring program may be the most important career education opportunity for students in our community.  It is a unique way to bring young men and women of high school age into a close association with professionals from various companies and career fields,” Donald Kinney, Scout Executive, Blackhawk Area Council said.

“It gives them a truly unique insight and helps them to decide on their next steps in career readiness. Their partnership with the Career Exploring program demonstrates the active engagement of the Boone County State’s Attorney in this community on behalf of young people.”

Boone County State’s Attorney Michelle Courier said, “We are pleased to provide this program again.   It is rewarding to be part of a program that can positively impact our children and provide them the opportunity to explore their future career choices with real life experiences.”

The “First Nighter,” an informational meeting, will be held for interested youth and their parents on Thursday, Sept.24, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Belvidere North High School located at 9393 Beloit Road in Belvidere.

At this event, students will be given an overview of the program and scheduled activities and have the opportunity to register.  The only cost of the program is a $24 application fee.  Personal checks should be made payable to Blackhawk Area Council.

More information on the program can be found at www.boonecountyil.org/content/law-explorer-program.  For anyone unable to attend the meeting but are still interested in the program, please contact the State’s Attorney’s Office at (815) 544-0868.
