Byron Forest Preserve to offer Archaeology Artifacts ID Day
The Byron Forest Preserve District will offer the Seventh Annual Archaeology Artifacts ID day on Saturday, July 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the lower shelter of the Jarrett Prairie Nature Preserve located at 7993 North River Road in Byron.
Talk to professional archaeologists about your own collection of Native American points, prehistoric tools, fossils and other items that you have found and are curious about. This event is free. Participants should wear a facemask and social distancing in the outdoor shelter will be enforced for everyone’s safety.
Learn more about prehistoric tools and weapons through hands-on demonstrations at this interactive event. The Rock River valley was home to large numbers of native Americans for over 12,000 years and we are always amazed with the private collections of stone tools, points and pottery shards that people have found and come to this event to have identified.
