Byron High students receive national honors in choir
Two students from Byron High School Chamber Choir, Izzy Bartscher and Caleigh Huber, have received notice that they are selected to be a part of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) All-National Honors Choir. NAfME, among the world’s largest arts education organization, is the only association that addresses all aspects of music education. NAfME advocates at the local, state, and national levels; provides resources for teachers, parents, and administrators; hosts professional development events; and offers a variety of opportunities for students and teachers. The Association orchestrates success for millions of students nationwide and has supported music educators at all teaching levels for more than a century.
Criteria for this event entailed that the students must be a member of their school’s performing ensembles, they must have been a member of their state’s All-State Ensembles, and they needed to submit a video recording of themselves performing a required selection of music without any instrumental accompaniment. They also had to have a recommendation letter written, on their behalf, by their choir director, Amy Harn. The 2016 NAfME All-National Honors Ensembles Group Managers received applications from the finest student musicians of NAfME members. The difficult selection process has been completed and all students and their directors were notified last week.
Izzy and Caleigh will be traveling to Grapevine, TX on Nov. 10-13 for their Honor Choir experience. They will be rehearsing for three days, with a guest conductor, and then have a final concert for the music teachers attending the National Music Convention, which is also held during this time in Grapevine.
Please extend your congratulations to them when you see Izzy and Caleigh performing at ByronFest in a few weeks.
