Byron Key Club 10-Day Mission Trip in Appalachian Mountains
Forestry expert prepares kids for Appalachian Mountains
Mark Herman, Superintendent of Education at Byron Forest Preserve, coordinated training for 2019 Byron Key Club Mission Trip members who leave May 31 for 10-days in the Appalachian Mountains.
It was perfect afternoon on Monday, May 13, to spend an hour with Sue Kleiman learning about “trail safety,” proper clothing, sunglasses, sunscreen, bug repellent, how to identify and avoid poisonous plants, tick removal, hydration, etc. After this training…we went to Farm & Fleet to purchase ‘muck boots’ for NC RiverLink volunteering.
After a childhood in “Scouting,” Sue Kleiman received a degree in Forestry & Wildlife Management at Virginia Tech and later a Masters degree in Environmental Education. In addition to helping at Byron Forest Preserve.
She and her husband, Bill, work for The Nature Conservancy at Nachusa Grasslands in Franklin Grove, Ill. Many Thanks to Sue for all her preparation and time.
