On Saturday, Jan. 14, the Capron Lions Club hosted a pancake fundraiser breakfast at Capron Lions Park, located at 305 E. North St. in Capron. The Capron Lions club was assisted by their Leos Club with a silent auction fundraiser.
“We really want to thank the public for coming out to support us,” Barb Sager said. “Attendance is excellent. We had served 165 plates by 8:30 a.m. and people are still coming, and we are here until 1 p.m. The silent auction is going great.”
These fundraising opportunities will go to good causes to aid the local community.
“Proceeds from our pancake breakfast are going to help us fund our community projects,” Sager said.“We need a hood in the kitchen to become a fully functioning, certified kitchen. This will give us the opportunity for more functions in our community, both by outside groups and for Lions functions.Come spring, we will be adding another playground to our Capron Lions Park. This is a centennial project to help celebrate 100 years of Lions Clubs. The Lions Club has been in Capron for 62 years.”
Not only does the Capron Lions Club give back to the community through service projects, but also by encouraging service in others as well.
“We are a sponsoring club with the Poplar Grove Lions Club for the North Boone Leo Club for youth,” Sager said.“They are also busy in the community. Youth helping youth. The Leo Club was formed in the spring of 2015. Last spring, they raised $1,000 for the Center for Sight and Hearing. We hope to do so again with today’s silent auction and the Rose Sale this spring. We will begin selling cut roses in another week and will continue to sell them through the end of March. All the money raised by the Leo Club will go to the Center for Sight and Hearing.”
Besides fundraisers, the Capron Lions Club will host a service night to promote family time on Friday, Jan. 20.
“Our next event will be our free Family Movie Night on Jan. 20. We will be showing the movie ‘Happy Feet,’” Sager said. “On Feb. 9 is our blood drive. We are striving for donors for the Rock River Valley Blood Center. The Lions Club motto is ‘We serve’ and that is another way that we can help the community.”
Other upcoming events will be Pancake Day for Capron Fire District I on March 11, Rose Day on April 8, and the Easter egg hunt on April 15.
“We’re always posting events and things on Facebook,” Sager said. “All summer we have baseball games at the Capron Lions Park. Mondays through Thursdays, the North Boone youth hold their games from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Every Friday night, the men’s softball league plays. Our Lions Club building is available for any kind of event: 4-H Club meetings, birthdays, baptisms, weddings, anniversaries, confirmations, and more. We have a range of everything. For use of the building, please call Lion Barb at (815) 289-5279.”
