The Loves Park City Council welcomed St. Bridget’s Student Council to the Jan. 30 meeting with the eighth grade students leading aldermen in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Mayor Darryl Lindberg presented the students with a proclamation declaring Jan. 29-Feb. 4 as “Catholic Schools Week” in the city.
Accompanying the students, besides parents, was Monsignor Dan Deutsch of St. Bridget’s, who gave the invocation at the start of the meeting.
Information provided by St. Bridget member Patti Bishop explained that staff are heavily involved in this annual event, including Principal Mary Toldo, Student Council Moderator Jill Decard and fifth grade teacher Lisa Maryott, Student Council Moderator and sixth grade teacher Jennifer Raymond, along with parent volunteers.
Monsignor Deutsch explained that this was the 43rd year that Catholic schools nationwide celebrated the event.
Mayor Lindberg noted that St. Bridget’s opened in 1955, and includes a student populatin of 386 children from the local area, including not only Loves Park but Roscoe, Rockton, and other nearby communities. There are approxiimatley two million students in Catholic schools nationwide.
