Miss Tracy, of the Cherry Valley Public Library coordinated a Valentine’s Day party on Saturday, Feb. 11 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

“Everybody’s sick,” she said. “We might only have three people here today.”

No matter how big or small the party, Miss Tracy was prepared.

Six children began the party by crafting necklaces. More children arrived and started creating their own masterpieces with the others.

The children happily strung beads, painted pictures, glued sparkly gems to paper hearts, stamped and colored with the help of a few parents.

“I count 30 people,” Miss Tracy said, with a sigh of relief. The children had fun and the parents played with them or relaxed in their seats.

After craft time, Miss Tracy moved onto story time.

Miss Tracy read “Here Comes Valentine Cat” by Deborah Underwood.

Cat had a new neighbor, Dog, who kept throwing things over the fence at her. He had thrown bones and even a ball across the fence and Cat was not happy.

Once convinced that she should send her nasty neighbor a valentine, Cat came up with one mean valentine rhyme after another, especially when another bone hit her in the head.

Eventually, a card came over the fence. It was a valentine from Dog who hoped that she liked the presents that he has been giving her – the ball was his favorite toy.

With this new perspective, Cat made a valentine for Dog which reflected the meaning of the day.

The next book Miss Tracy reads was “Who Will Be My Valentine This Year?” by Jerry Pallotta.

A lady Hippopotamus searched for someone to be her valentine. The elephant said ‘no,’ the lion says ‘no,’ and everyone else says ‘no,’ She finally asked the skunk to be her valentine and found that everyone was teasing her; every one of them would be her valentine.

As the party ended, Miss Tracy looked forward to the next event at the library: mini-golfing.

“It’s going to be fun,” she said.

A nine-hole miniature golf course will be at the Cherry Valley Public Library on Saturday, Feb. 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 26 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The cost will be $5 per golfer. Children 3-years-old and younger can golf for free with a paying adult.

Refreshments will be available for purchase. While people wait for their tee time, they can take a look at the huge selection of items in the silent auction and start bidding. Golf reservations are suggested, but drop-ins are also welcome.

Hole sponsors and donors for the silent auction are needed. Please call the library for details or to make a reservation at (815) 332-5161.
