Loves Park Aldermen were busy at the June 19 bi-monthly city council meeting:

*A motion to approve a Special Event Permit for Tree-Ripe Fruit Co. to conduct fruit sales in the Farm & Fleet parking lot at 7300 E. Riverside Blvd. on July 7 and July 28, 2023 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. passed

*A motion to approve a Special Event Permit for Rock River Multisport to conduct a “duathlon” at Peak Sports Club and on a portion of city streets on July 23 from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. was approved.

*The mayor was approved to execute an Economic Development Agreement between the City of Loves Park and Thayer Lighting, Inc.

*A resolution was also authorized for the mayor to execute a renewal of the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System Master Agreement between the City and other participating agencies.

*A resolution authorizing the mayor to hire Alyssa Thompson for the position of Communications and Marketing Specialist at a salary of $58,000 per year, effective June 20, 2023, was passed.

*A resolution authorizing the Final Plat of Rock Cut Business Park No. 11 was okayed.

*A resolution authorizing the water department manager to hire N-Trak Group LLC. for the Forest Hills Road water main extension between Zenith Parkway and Sunbird Dr. for a cost not to exceed $747,948.98 was approved.

–Ordinances approved were:

*An amendment to Chapter 54, Section 277 of the Loves Park Code of Ordinances regarding Special Event Permit requirements.

*An ordinance providing for a Class A liquor license for the property known as 5919 N. Second St. passed

*An ordinance providing for a Class R-2 Liquor License for the property known as 7003 N. Alpine Road was okayed.

*An ordinance amending Section 90-121 of the Loves Park Code of Ordinances regarding Service disconnection and restoration fees passed.

*An ordinance was approved for a special use permit for 100 percent office space at 7703 Forest Hills Road passed.

*An ordinance for a zoning map amendment for 6174 Commonwealth Dr. was approved

The May 28 through June 10 fire department weekly activity report was given: EMS Incidents, 128 service calls, 22 “all others,” which includes…fires 29 with a total of calls for service being 179 calls.

The police activity report from May 28 through June 10 noted: 1,122 calls for service received, 29 arrests made, 305 tickets and warnings issued, and response to 27 vehicle crashes were reported.

Street department workers, besides other work, continue with catch basin and sidewalk replacement and have started mowing ditches.

Water department workers, also among other duties, are monitoring the Maple Ave. water main improvement project; assisted with fire hydrant replacement (Bell School Road and Preakness Dr.); repaired a water main break at Colby and Old Golf); repaired a water main break at 123 Sheridan Dr., worked on the Eastmont Ave. water main tie-in (Maple Road project), and the Deerfield Road water main tie-in.
