A number of items were approved at the bi-monthly Loves Park city council meeting Nov. 18:

*Per the mayor’s report, the “Light Up the Parks Parade” will be held on Sunday, Nov. 24 with a kick-off set for 5:30 p.m. at Loves Park City Hall.

*City offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov. 29, in observance of Thanksgiving.

*Leaf-vacuuming will continue until the week of Dec. 6.

Resolutions and ordinance approved were:

*A resolution authorizing the City of Loves Park “to make a donation of $5,000 to

Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful to help sponsor several community programs for 2025 passed.

This includes 2025 Christmas tree recycling, medication collection, the “Great American Cleanup,” cell phone for soldiers, flag retirement, and two clothing drives.

*A resolution authorizing Fire Chief James Hart to purchase six complete sets of turnout gear from Dingus Fire Co. of Loves Park with funds provided by a grant awarded to the Loves Park Fire Department by the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, Inc. was approved.

*An ordinance abating the Tax Levied for the Year 2023 to pay principal and interest on $4,100,000…“General Obligation Refunding Alternate Bonds, Series 2017” passed.

*An ordinance amending the Loves Park Code of Ordinances, Chapter 22, Article V – “Tattooing, Body Piercing, Body Branding, Body Scarification, and Body Carving” passed.

*An ordinance authorizing the City of Loves Park to borrow funds from the Public Water Supply Loan Program was approved

Removed from the agenda was an ordinance providing for a special use permit to allow a non-for-profit foster care agency for the property known as 5642 N. Second St.

Mayor Greg Jury welcomed Peter Gwizdala of Crazy Times and Brad Lindmark of the Lindmark Foundation. Gwizdala presented a check from the proceeds of the Rhythm of the Heart Festival to Lindmark and Mayor Jury presented a proclamation to Rich and Dana Schmidt, proclaiming Nov. 4 as “Rich and Dana Schmidt Recognition Day” in the City of Loves Park. Schmidt thanked everyone for their support of Backyard Grill and Bar over the years.

At the Nov. 4 council meeting the Chief of Police was hereby authorized to hire Adrianna Heffern for the position of Clerical Assistant, within the Loves Park Police Department.

Adrianna was the next eligible candidate on the current Civil Service Roster. Her start date was Nov. 18 with an annual salary of $40,500.

Per the bi-monthly fire department report between Oct. 31 and Nov. 12, 122 EMS incidents were reported, 10 service calls were made, five fire calls were responded to and “all other types of calls” totaled 24 for a total of 121 calls received.

Per the bi-monthly police department report from Oct. 13 to 26, a total of 977 calls for service were received, 29 arrests made, 238 tickets and warnings were issued, and 26 vehicle crashes were reported.

From Oct. 28 to Nov. 11, the water department continued street sweeping, completed Christmas light set-up and set up for the Light up the Parks parade, plus finished setting up trucks for winter snow removal.

The water department between Oct. 29 and Nov. 11, among other tasks, mowed all wells, worked on WINGIS fire hydrant flushing data entry, completed Four Rivers Sanitation shut-offs, repaired water service in the 5700 block of E. Riverside Blvd., and repaired a water main break in the 7700 block of N. Alpine Road.
