CHARLOTTE – Donna Carter Walberg, of Charlotte, NC passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on Feb. 12 at Charlotte Healthcare and Rehab Center.
She was born in Winnebago County, Ill., as the daughter of the late Jay Wallace and Ruby Hassinger Carter.
Her beloved husband of 68 years, Franklin Axel Walberg preceded her in death on Jan. 9, as well as three brothers, Robert Carter, Delbert Carter, and William Carter.
Donna and her late husband Franklin owned and operated Hobbyland Pet Store in Belvidere, Ill. for more than 25 years.
Following their retirement in 1989, they moved to Charlotte, NC. For 17 years she was fondly known as “The Bird Lady” at the Cherryville/Dallas Flea Market.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Suzanne W. Coleman (Stephen) of Charlotte, NC, Sandra K. Forrester of Rockford, Ill., Sharon L. Treadway (the late Ron Treadway) of Newton, NC and Signe M. Curry of Charlotte, NC. She is also survived by sisters, Dorothy Brockman (late husband Virgil), Dolores Glover (Paul) and her brother Harlan “Denny” Carter (late wife Sandy); 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Inurnment will follow a Graveside Memorial service at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 19 in Forest Lawn West Cemetery, Reverend Jerry Lail officiating. Family and friends will be gathering Friday at Forest Lawn West Funeral and Cremation Service prior to the service at 1:30 p.m.
